Divergent Production Details
Definition: The generation of information where the emphasis is upon variety and quality of output; includes fluency, flexibility, and originality, but, on the other hand, it includes quality, relevance, and discipline.

Strengths if ability is well-developed:

  • Good fluency and confidence with ideas
  • Confidence and willingness to explore with symbolics
  • Ability to produce ideas and put them together

Consequences if ability is not well-developed:

  • Will be inhibited in tasks without explicit instructions
  • Difficulty assimilating new math concepts; “timidity” in exploring solutions
  • Will be slow and/or pedantic in writing; probably poor in composition
